Thank you for shopping with Thyme & Thistle Apothecary. These terms explain how buying from our website works. By placing an order, you agree to them, so please read them carefully. Clauses in bold limit our responsibility or place a risk on you, so please pay special attention to them.

2. Our products
- All our soaps are handmade in small batches. Product photos are a guide. Because we use natural and herbal ingredients, colour, pattern, scent, shape and weight can vary slightly from batch to batch. This is part of their handmade nature and isn’t a defect.
- Each product page lists the full ingredients. Please read the ingredient list before buying, especially if you have allergies or sensitive skin.
- Products are sold while stocks last. Limited-edition products are made in small quantities and may not be made again.
3. Using our products safely
- Our body soaps are for external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. If contact happens, rinse well with clean water.
- Please patch test on a small area of your inner arm before first use, and stop using a product if any redness, itching or irritation appears. Seek medical advice if irritation continues.
- Our products are made for everyday cleansing and self-care. They are not medicines and aren’t intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any medical condition. If you’re pregnant, breastfeeding, under medical care, or buying for a young child, check with your healthcare provider if you’re unsure.
- The Lemon Kitchen Soap Bar is a household cleaning product and must not be used on skin. Keep all products out of reach of children.
4. Prices
- All prices are in South African Rand (ZAR).
- We are not registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged. The price you see is the full product price.
- Delivery is charged separately at a flat rate of R150.00 per order and is shown at checkout before you pay. See our Shipping Policy.
- We may change prices from time to time, but the price you pay is the price shown when you placed your order. If a price on the site is obviously wrong because of a technical or typing error, we’ll contact you before processing the order, and you can choose to go ahead at the correct price or cancel for a full refund.
5. Placing an order
- When you place an order, you’ll receive an email confirming that we’ve received it. Your order is accepted once your payment has reflected in our account.
- We may decline or cancel an order (for example, if an item has sold out or we suspect fraud). If we do and you’ve already paid, you’ll receive a full refund.
6. Payment (EFT only)
- We accept payment by EFT (direct bank transfer) only. Our bank details are shown on your order confirmation page and in your order confirmation email.
- Please use your order number as the payment reference.
- Your order is reserved for 3 days while we wait for payment. If no payment has reflected by then, the order may be cancelled and the items released back into stock.
- Protect yourself from fraud: we will never change our banking details by email or message. If you receive a message claiming our bank details have changed, don’t pay. Contact us on +27 62 267 9583 first.
7. Delivery
Delivery times, costs, tracking and address responsibilities are set out in our Shipping Policy, which forms part of these terms. If we can’t deliver your order within 30 days of the day after we receive it, you may cancel it and get a full refund.
8. Cancellations, returns and refunds
Your right to cancel within 7 days (the ECTA cooling-off period), and how we handle damaged, defective or incorrect items, are set out in our Returns & Refunds Policy, which forms part of these terms. Nothing in these terms takes away your rights under the Consumer Protection Act or ECTA.
9. Privacy
We respect your privacy and handle your personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). We only use your details to process and deliver your order, communicate with you, and, if you agree, send you news from us. Please read our Privacy Policy for full details.
10. Website security
Our website uses a secure (SSL) connection. Because we only accept EFT, we never ask for or store your card details on our website.
11. Our content
All content on this website, including our product names, descriptions, photographs, logo and branding, belongs to Thyme & Thistle Apothecary. Please don’t copy or reuse it without our written permission. You’re welcome to share links to our pages.
12. Limitation of liability
- As far as the law allows, we are not responsible for any reaction to a product where the ingredient was listed on the product page, the product was not patch tested, or it was used in a way other than as directed (including the Lemon Kitchen Soap Bar used on skin).
- We are not responsible for delays caused by couriers, public holidays, load-shedding, strikes, severe weather or other events outside our reasonable control, although we’ll always do our best to help you.
- Our total responsibility for any order is limited to the amount you paid for that order.
- None of this limits our responsibility for loss or harm caused by our gross negligence, or any rights you have under the Consumer Protection Act that can’t legally be excluded.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version on our website when you place your order is the one that applies to that order.
14. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. If something goes wrong, please contact us first. We’ll do our best to sort it out quickly and fairly. If we can’t resolve it together, you may refer your complaint to the Consumer Goods and Services Ombud (CGSO) at www.cgso.org.za, or to the National Consumer Commission.
